Why do you only ship via Priority Mail?

USPS Priority Mail is tracked and insured (to full value of the shipment). It also arrives to you within 1 to 3 days from shipment for the USA, and 6-10 days for Canada. We strive to provide the best service with the best products, and we know how aggravating it is waiting for a week or more for your order to arrive.

Do you charge sales tax?

We are required to collect sales tax in the states where we have a physical business presence. Specifically, that is Pennsylvania. Where we are located is the 6% tax rate. We do not collect tax for any shipments made to other states or Canada.

How are you related to TYT?

We are a dealer for TYT.

When will (feature X) be added?

We generally have no knowledge of when features will be added to products. We recommend asking your question on the TYT eMail list.

When will (product X) be available?

While we may know of upcoming products as a business necessity to prepare for sales, we are not at liberty to release that information. As soon as a product announcement is made we WILL include it on our website home page as a NEWS item. The same applies when we have any new items available for sale or pre-order.

How do I pay for a non-warranty repair?

Is DigitalHam.US a legitimate business?

Yes, we are. DigitalHam.US is what is known as a DBA, or Doing Business As name. We are a division of MCH Communications which is a Pennsylvania registered business that has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We chose to use the DBA in order to better define the multiple divisions of the company. But, everything is legitimate, above board, and is on the books. It is perfectly normal for a business to have a division using a DBA. It's much like the relationship between Xfinity and Comcast, but on a slightly smaller scale. Also, Comcast only has a B+ BBB rating.

About Us

DigitalHam.US, formed in 2015 for the purpose of digital radio sales, is a division of MCH Communications.

MCH Telecom was formed in the early 80's as a broadcast quality video production company and stringer for a local network television affiliate. How does this relate to SDR or digital radio? It's not a long story, but not a short one either. MCH Telecom was riding on the wave of video production that surged in the 80's. As with any wave, there were a lot of others doing the same thing, and the competition was fierce (and still is for stringers). One of the partners of MCH Telecom decided, with encouragement from others, to re-enter a business that he had been in and sold off in the early 70s - that of radio communications sales and service. Thus MCH Communications was formed in 1986. Early on, MCH was a General Electric manufacturer's rep and dealer, but Motorola was expanding their line to include new opportunities for dealers, and MCH added the Motorola Radius line to the dealership. During this time, GE was outsourcing several of their products, but it was not the outsourcing we know today. It was much more drawn out, and some GE products were ordered only to have lead times (time until your order shipped) that went several months out. During one order, the lead time was quoted as OVER A YEAR (no kidding), and we decided that GE could not provide us the products that could meet our customer expectations. So, we decided to focus more on the Motorola line as well as several lesser known economy brands, such as Relm (previously Regency), Tekk, Shinwa (one of the GE sources, ironically), Vertex, and others. There were ups and downs, but they evened out fairly well. That is, until the FCC decided that narrowbanding was a good idea...

The FCC's narrowbanding requirements will likely do down in history as one of the largest shifts in radio users that will ever pass. They established a deadline to replace virtually all radio equipment with newer models capable of more narrowband emissions. There was a major flaw in the plan, however; the economy was in the outhouse, and many businesses in our economically depressed service area simply could not afford to replace their radios. That, combined with the proliferation of cellphones, made Cellular a more attractive alternative for these business users, so many opted to take the lesser costly path. This resulted in the vast majority of business users, our customers, no longer needing radio maintenance services. The Public Safety users then became the majority of our customers, but they too were subject to the rebanding requirements. Fortunately, they had tax dollars to support their new radio systems. It was decided that all users would be migrated to a new P25 trunked radio system, and with all the new radios the calls for service dimished with the exception of re-installation in replacement vehicles. Fortunately, that only affected one of the counties in our area. But, that would change as the narrowbanding deadline drew near. Additional counties also opted for the same new systems, and service calls for those areas also 'dried up', as new radios rarely need serviced. While we still had contracts, the writing on the wall was plain as day. Clearly, another shift in strategy was needed to support the business - enter Airspy.US (our SDR division) and DigitalHam.

For the past several years, digital radio had been making great progress and some that are now avaialble are very affordable. We want to bring the outstanding service we have been offering in our SDR division to the digital community.

To be continued...

TYT MD-380 UHF DMR portable         Description | Specs | Pics | Contents | Accessories

The MD-380 is a feature rich, compact, FCC Part 90 Type Accepted hand held transceiver that is an excellent low cost option for any ham looking to enter the Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) DMR world. It offers outstanding audio, and clear, full quieting digital voice communications without sacrificing the analog capability hams need (and supports both 12.5 and 25 kHz analog FM bandwidths). The MD-380 operates on 400-480MHz frequencies (UHF model) at up to 5 watts.

The MD 380 offers an impressive 1000 channels, two-color LED display, built-in CTCSS/CDCSS (AKA DCS), Channel Scan, and Priority Scan. The MD-380 uses a 2-pin (Kenwood K1) connector so you can use the accessories you may already have! The MD-380 uses Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier 1 and 2 Standard protocols which are compatible with MotoTRBO (TM Motorola) and many other DMR standard radios. Yes, this includes the DMR-MARC linked ham radio system. [Note: This unit is NOT compatible with the Motorola Connect Plus or Capacity Plus trunking schemes.] Unlike most other DMR radios, the MD-380 includes front panel programming via the backlit DTMF keypad for making changes on the fly - eliminating the need to carry a laptop computer to program your radio.

The MD-380's rugged construction is another advantage, as is it's small size; only 5 1/4" tall including the knobs! And if you use DMR on a licensed business channel, this unit is Part 90 Type Accepted, so it's legal to use on both ham and commercial bands. The UHF MD-380 comes with not only a standard whip antenna, but also a stubby UHF antenna. Yes, both are included in the standard package! The FREE programming software allows all programming aspects, and you can assign your favorite four functions to the two side multi-function buttons. At only a fraction of the cost of many ham band portables, the MD-380 is a great radio and an outstanding choice for anyone looking to upgrade to DMR.

You can't find all these features in a Connect Systems CS700, CS750, Anytone AT-858 or Quantun QP-2100.
